Day One of the Grom Patrol Surf Training had 12 frothing groms, 6 girls and 6 boys, gathering on Kuta Beach this morning for their first day of surf training under the direction of Dylan Amar from Bali Elite Surf Coaching, with Tiana Izquierdo and Mustofa Jeksen lending their talents to the day’s program and Tipi Jabrik keeping a watchful eye over the group.

The mid-morning high tide conditions kept the kids from being able to catch many waves on their own in the warm up session, but gave the Dylan and his team a better chance to keep the group focused on learning about things like better paddling techniques, positioning for catching waves, and even how priority works in surf competitions before actually hitting the waves.

After lunch as the tide dropped, the kids got a chance to catch waves and do video reviews on their performances until about 4 pm, when they were taken back to Kosta Hostel for showers, dinner, reviewing the day, and some hangout time together.

This program is structured to take the young surfers at their present skill and knowledge level and provide them with focused physical and mental surf training and then give them a chance to measure their improvement in a real surf competition, which will be held at Halfways, Kuta Beach this Sunday. Tomorrow they will continue with their second day of training and instruction at the beach.
