Monday, 22 June 2026, Patong Beach, Phuket-Thailand: Andaman Sea Surf and the Asian Surf Cooperative are excited to announce the Pearl of the Andaman: Grom of the Sea 2026 junior (grom) surfing event, which will offer Thailand’s junior surfers (under 18) a chance to gather together for a two day competition at Patong Beach in the holiday paradise of Phuket, Thailand from 27-28 June.
This year’s event marks an important milestone for Thailand’s youth surfing community as the competition is officially sanctioned by ASC (Asian Surf Cooperative) and becomes part of the newly launched Asian Ranking System (ARS) a unified ranking platform designed to support athlete development and recognize competitive performance across ASC-sanctioned events throughout Asia.

This year’s Grom of the Sea will have competition divisions for both males and females in the Under 14 and Under 18 Shortboard Divisions, as well as an Under 18 Longboard Division, with prizes for the finalists from event sponsors and supporters in addition to the ranking’s points on offer.
Organized by Andaman Sea Surf, the event continues its mission of creating opportunities for young surfers and building a stronger ocean sports community in Thailand.
This 2026 edition has already registered over 60 entries, the majority from Thailand but also from other countries, including Singapore, Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
“We’re really excited and proud to be able to organize this event,” said Event Director Pattaravadi. “For many years now, our passion has been to grow surfing by creating opportunities and experiences for the next generation. This event is not only about competition, but about friendship, community, and inspiring young surfers to follow their dreams. We are also proud to welcome athletes from different countries, and for this event to be part of their journey through the Asian surfing pathway.”

This year’s Pearl of the Andaman: Grom of the Sea 2026 event will be more than just a surfing competition, bringing in the energy of Phuket’s ocean lifestyle through DJ performances, surf community activities, and a local market featuring surf gear and local lifestyle brands, food & beverage, and various ocean lifestyle products, with the aim of creating a welcoming space where athletes, families, locals, and visitors can experience the spirit of surfing culture together.
On Friday the 26th of June there will be an Officials Meeting at the Patong Bay Hill Resort at 1:00 pm, followed by an Athletes Meeting at 3:00 pm, where the participants will receive competition briefings, event information, and official updates before the competition starts on Saturday morning.
As one of Asia’s growing surf destinations, Phuket continues to play an important role in supporting the development of young athletes and ocean sports tourism, and so the Pearl of the Andaman: Grom of the Sea 2026 represents more than just a single competition — it is step on the pathway for the next generation of surfers to learn, connect, compete, and grow on an international stage.
