Final Stop of RAST (REnextop Asian Surfing Tour) Begins at Cherating Beach in Malaysia with Men’s Shortboard and Women’s Longboard Divisions Seeing  Action on Day One

15 December 2019, Cherating, Pahang, Malaysia:  The final RAST event of 2019 got underday today at the sand bottomed left-hand point break in Cherating this afternoon, running through Round 1 of the Men’s Shortboard Division, Round 1 of the Women’s Longboard Divisions, and two heats of the Women’s Shortboard Division.The sand bottom lefthand point break offered up mostly great waves for the competitors to start the 2.5 day competition, with the monsoon weather varying from slightly sunny and fairly calm conditions to strong rain downpours and windy outbursts that didn’t affect the waves adversely but had the spectators and photographers running for cover now and then.Competitors from Hawaii, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Sweden and Taiwan came to Cherating to join in the 2.5 day competition, which will see a full day of surfing tomorrow and the culmination of the event on Tuesday the 17th of December.Leading contenders for RAST 2019 championships are Indonesia’s Mega Artana and Rio Waida in the Men’s Shortboard Division, Dhea Natasya from Indonesia and Hayanna Iguchi (Bali/Brazil) in the Women’s Shortboard Division, who both have event wins to set them on top of the rankings.In the Men’s Longboard Division, Japan’s Masaya Tsukamoto is in position to take the championship as neither Arip Nurhidayat from Indonesia or Marven Abat from the Philippines are here to challenge him, and in the Women’s Longboard Division its  Dhea Natasya and Japan’s Natsumi Taoka who have posted wins and sit on top of the rankings so it will be a battle royale for this title.The competitor with the highest points total from two of the three events will be crowned the champion, and each of the four champions will receive a trophy and $1,000 USD in addition to their event earnings.The event is not webcast live but you can follow the event on Live Heats at https://www.liveheats.com/events/2728 to see heat draws, live scoring, and  ranking information.The competition will resume tomorrow morning with the Women’s Shortboard Division starting at  8:00 am.  It is monsoon season here in Malaysia, so the weather will dictate the schedule for the remainder of the day.  Keep checking back to Live Heats for updates._________________________________________________________________________________________________About the REnextop Asian Surfing Tour Through this series of competitions, REnextop will strengthen the integration of China’s surfing community with the international surfing world to provide more opportunities, communication avenues and interactions.
