(Keramas Beach, Bali Indonesia: May 2nd, 2016) With only a day left until the 2016 Komune Bali Pro Presented by The Mad Hueys kicks off at the perfect right-hander of Keramas on Bali’s East coast, competitors look forward in anticipation for stellar conditions at the forecast looks promising.
After recently announcing his retirement from competitive surfing after more than two decades on the World Surf league’s (WSL’s) elite Championship Tour (CT), Taj Burrow will attempt to make it back-to-back wins at Keramas for one of his last ever WSL event appearances.
“I really love this wave and I’ve got a lot of mates here so it’s a no-brainer to come and do this event,” Burrow said. “Last year was such a fun event, winning it was just a bonus. It looks like there’s going to be plenty of swell this week so I can’t wait to get out there with just a couple of other guys.”
Gold Coast surfer Brent Dorrington is the highest seed surfer for major sponsor The Mad Hueys. Due to chasing points at Qualifying Series (QS) events else where during the last two Komune Bali Pro contests, Dorrington is looking forward to finally getting out at one of the world’s best waves with only a few surfers out.
“I can't wait for this event,” Dorrington said. “I've missed it for the last three years because I have been doing the QS grind but I put everything aside to come this year and the swell looks like it's going to be pumping I'm really excited to stay over it”
Dorrington can’t wait to use his past experience surfing Keramas to go up against some of the biggest names in the game, including Joel Parkinson, Bruce Irons and last year’s winner, Burrow.
“I've surfed at keramas a bit and absolute love the wave, it’s just so perfect, whether it’s barrels or turns, it has it all. I feel pretty confident so those CT guys better watch out because I’m coming in hot.”
The Komune Bali Pro Presented By The Mad Hueys will run from May 3 – 7. For more information and images during the event, head to www.worldsurfleague.com or the WSL App during the event window.
